One Word: Re-invention (at a right pace and timing).

Gorls should really learn the basic of longevity. Talent can survive but wit can maintain your status. She has the perfect balance of that aspects, and she knows it. She's aware of her limitations and she always put her best foot forward to compensate her shortcomings. That's what makes her stand out among her peers.

Their 1st success comes from the fact they were sold as an anti-conformist band, so tons of kids at the time fell for that. They were the opposit of the Beatles, you know the group that parents want their kids to listen to, Rolling Stones were the group parents forbid their kids to listen to, they were rebels. By listen to them, kids felt like they had an identity, they were their own person.
Also they weren't a week without them being trashed in some UK magazines, not that they didn't deserve it. I lost the track of how many times Mick got caught with cocaine, Keith aswell. The fact that Brian had so many kids at just 22 with different mothers were also a reccurent subject in the magazines, His death at that very age made highlights too even if he wasn't a part of the group anymore.

To say Rolling Stones's success has been built by magazines, by trying to put them down , the mags just made them more and more popular each time. But they willl have never last that long though if their music wasn't as consistent as it was.
At the beginning, Brian was the brain of the group and their music was just covers of Blues songs, but after Mick and Keith took over Brian, and impose their ideas and that's how songs like "Can't get no satisfaction" were born.
Last but not least, they are no Rock bands's leaders that have the charisma of Mick Jagger and the swagga of Keith Richards.

I find them really overrated and really don't get their success over the years. There are several Classic Rock bands that are better than The Rolling Stones. "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" is definitely a rock anthem, "Angie" is a great tune and "Sympathy For The Devil" is their best, but I don't see anything impressive in their music other than these songs. I checked a compliation album of them once and erased most of the songs. But that's just my opinion, BnPac has posted much more interesting information.

I love them to pieces. "Paint It Black" is one of my favorite songs of all time.
I definitely consider them to be legends. I feel they have a unique style of music. They've influenced rock in their own way. They have really beautiful and substantial music. "Wild Horses" and "Angie" are tear jerkers for me. lol.
I think they deserve all the success they have. Without them, rock music wouldn't be the way it is. They've given their piece of the puzzle just like a lot of other older bands have which all ultimately led into the development of what rock music is today.

The 'Shine A Light' tour was one of the best tours of the decade. They are the main Rockers. All our new mainstream Bands are inspired by The Rolling Stones whether they admit it or not. They are the Michael Jackson of Rock music and only people with an original taste of Rock music enjoy their music, I don't expect a lot of people in here to praise them, though.
