First, R&B pop rincess Rihanna goes ahead and collaborates with fruit obsessed prima donna Katy Perry. Now she’s lamenting over the fact that she really wanted to sing with punk wannabe, Avril Lavigne. We’re not completely against Rihanna. She’s definitely learned to grow as an artist and has come a long way from her days of “Pon de Replay” first hitting the radio waves. Just behind Beyonce, Rihanna has done a pretty great job at keeping her career afloat despite the chaos she’s had to endure with her ex-boyfriend.
However, we’re not sure if we side with the singer in regards to a duet with Avril Lavigne. It’s already bad enough that “Cheers (Drink To That)” samples Lavigne in the first place. Rihanna, on the other hand, seems to think her disappointment is legitimate.
According to Digital Spy, Rihanna wanted the Loud track to have actual vocals re-recorded by Lavigne instead of just using the sample. However the producers were too hard at work on getting the record done (as most are behind the scenes for the biggest pop stars these days) and finished the track before the two singers could actually meet up and sing together.
Rihanna told MTV:
“I asked whether she could appear, but when I heard the track it was already embedded in the music, so the producers already had it that way [...] But it would have sounded the same. I’m just glad that we could use her sample, because it became such a huge part of the instrumental that if it were not in the song, it would change the whole vibe of it [...] ‘Cheers’ is one of my favorite songs. It makes you feel like celebrating. It gives you a great feeling inside like you want to go out and have a drink. People can’t wait for the weekend.”
Lavgine makes us want to drink, too, but only so our senses can be damaged enough to block her music out.
Do you think the track would have been changed for the better if Avril Lavigne had gotten to re-record her vocals on Rihanna’s “Cheers (Drink To That)?”
