NORTHERN Territory starlet Jessica Mauboy has taken a dig at pop singers who rely on studio gimmicks to hide weak vocals.
Jessica said she was cautious of US producers' love of Auto-Tune.
"It sounds great on other people but doesn't work for me," she said.
"(Using Auto-Tune on recorded songs) makes it harder to perform live.
"I just went and saw Katy Perry and maybe she'd been touring a lot and had lost her voice a little bit but I saw her having a difficult time singing her own songs.
"I get quite disappointed when I see an artist fall a little short."
The former Australian Idol finalist made the comments while in Brisbane spruiking her new album Get Em Girls, which she wrote and recorded in the US with rap stars Snoop Dogg and ludacris.
