Nelly Furtado Praises Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga

The Canadian singer has often worried the industry is hard for women to break into, which is why she is glad things seem to be changing. She thinks artists like Lady Gaga will inspire young girls to become singers, citing the American star as a particularly important influence at the moment.
“There are a lot of good women out there doing their best and working really hard. Rihanna, Katy Perry. And I think Lady Gaga’s changed the business – she’s amazing,” Nelly enthused. “She’s reminded people that performance can be so much more, so many different levels. She’s a true art lover.”
Nelly added she wants more women to break into the industry so they can take over. She believes having positive role models is crucial, and thinks that aspect of being famous is something people need to consider seriously.
“For sure I think women are having this renaissance, we’re taking over again, like hundreds of years ago before the witch hunts!” she told Stylist magazine. “I think it’s all about role models – if you have good role models you’re fine and in my house my mother made the decisions.”
