In fact, I'm thinking (and HOPING) that this year will have another near split in Song/Record nominations. Don't get me wrong - last year was great, but if we have another year like 2005-2006 ...
Here's what I'm predicting (as of now)
Song of the Year
Florence & the Machine - Dog Days are Over
Lady Antebellum - Need You Now
Lady Gaga - Bad Romance
Miranda Lambert - White Liar
Katy Perry - Teenage Dream (really hoping she shows up here for this and not ROTY for California Gurls)
Record of the Year
Eminem featuring Rihanna - Love the Way You Lie
Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys - Empire State of Mind
Ke$ha - Tik Tok
Lady Gaga - Bad Romance
Sade - Soldier of Love
I'm really hoping that this year, another indie track can make it into ROTY ala Paper Planes. Hopefully XX's Islands? Black Keys Tighten Up?
|
If this won I would be so happy Florence is a great artist who is under appreciated in the U.S. I was so glad after the VMA performance when the song reached the Billboard Top 25

...how is that stan fighting? Just wondering, no disrespect. I didn't see it as such.

Not so much indie, but "Dog Days Are Over" and "Little Lion Man" are definitely possibilities.
I have a feeling "Dog Days Are Over" will get ROTY/SOTY nominations like "Don't Know Why," "Video," "Chasing Pavements," "Rehab," and "Put Your Records On." I think Florence is that breakout pop/rock/AC/soul artist to do it this year.

Florence's hype is growing A LOT. She will be performing on Saturday Night Live on the 20th.

Yeah, DDAO does make more sense in ROTY than Tik Tok. I just ignored it because it would be Gaga's main competition!
Also, does anyone else think that LTWYL might get a SOTY nod - and in its' place, both Not Afraid and Rude Boy will make it into Record?

Back in 2003, when urban music was the thing
It's uncommon for there to be more than one rap nom, if even one.

Album of the Year, probably. For some reason, I just don't see Lady A there. Miranda has been winning AOTY over them at all those country shows, so it's obvious that the country block is behind her and not them.

Arcade Fire just performed, and were the only decent things about one of the worst episodes of SNL I've ever seen. I think they have the AOTY nod in the bag.
But will another rock band join them? Pearl Jam, Vampire Weekend, Muse, The Black Keys and Mumford & Sons are all strong possibilities.

But who's been selling more?
That will be what decides it, I'm almost positive.

"Not Afraid" wasn't submitted. I think LTWYL will get a SOTY nod.

True, but that may not matter to the Grammys. It seems that all eyes are on Miranda this award season.

Isn't Jesus Walks the only rap song to get even nominated for SOTY?
I highly doubt LTWYL will be the exception to the trend of rappers getting snubbed. It doesn't have that much to offer lyrically and its structure is a little uninteresting.

"Lose Yourself" was the first rap song nominated for SOTY.

If Revolution, The Suburbs and The Fame Monster all made it into AOTY, I would never say a bad word against NARAS again. (Well, until Eminem beat them.)
Speaking of - Eminem, bar Taylor/King being nominated, is pretty much a lock, right? Most artists in the past fifteen years who have been noticeably overlooked have won on their third try. (Dixie Chicks immediately come to mind.)

Interesting question. Which set of two do you all think has the greatest chance of BOTH making it into Album of the Year?
Eminem and Jay?
Miranda and Lady Antebellum?
Gaga and Perry?
Sade and Taylor/King?
Arcade Fire and Monae?
