In my experience, when you pre-order an album from iTunes, you get an email from them that it's 'ready' the day it comes out. They won't automatically give it to you, but you can start downloading it from your "Downloads" or something. I've made the mistake of buying a Jack Johnson album twice because it didn't immediately go to my iTunes when it came out and I thought they'd ****ed up my pre-order.
I don't even like the thing.
