Thanks to everyone who voted this past round, which saw the elimination of the fourth song from our top ten. Initially, the results ran extremely close between the only two remaining songs released before the New Millennium. But a last-minute spurt of save votes for one contender signaled the end for the Queen of Pop. Say goodbye to...


"Like a Prayer" by Madonna, which was ultimately outlasted by hits from many of the heirs to her musical throne. From the beginning, the song found itself in questionable standing when participants in the voter poll at the start of the game deemed it a choice that "Could have been better" (though almost half thought it was "Excellent"). This ambivalence was reflected in reaction to the song, which was almost entirely ignored by voters initially and has been in danger of elimination every round since reaching the top ten. Though bigger targets of voter ire kept it in contention this long, as the numbers dwindled, "Like a Prayer" simply couldn't keep up with the competition any longer.
