‘I look around and I don’t see anyone outstanding. It’s all changed. Back in the day, our job was being rock stars. If you looked back at the front pages of the tabloids in the Seventies, you wouldn’t see us on them. I don’t even know whether to believe all the hype about the drugs; I just think, “Get out and record a bloody album.” I’ve done seven in the past nine years. Recording is so simple these days. It used to be a week getting a drum sound; now you can do it down the phone.
