They were talking too. I knew they were looking at me bc I was the only one in the back of the store. So my question is why do they do that?

They're obviously jealous. They want what they can't have. In this point in time they were lusting for you, not staring you down.

Because, they thought you were gay. Also most gays don't really go to Banana Republic anymore unless for a key few items so I would stare at you too. And, your stare down was too obvious especially if they kept doing it despite you noticing.
