ATRL: Bitchy & proud of it

Has being a bitch something that we've become proud of? It seems that the days of using "bitch" as an insult are over. Calling someone a bitch is now okay, because it's a compliment now! I was shocked to see this "foxaylove"'s signature: HBIC. To the less internet-savvy ones, it's short for Head Bitch In Charge.
What happened to being a good person, someone who cares for others? People are so foul-mouthed nowadays and it's worsened because it has become cool to curse, swear and insult.

It might be "cool" on the internet to be bitchy, but it's not going to get you anywhere in real life. Foul-mouthed language is so classless, you'll never be taken seriously once you start swearing excessively. I doubt that some of the members who act like they're packing ten inches are as ballsy in real life, it's easy to be a hard-ass on the internet.

Very true! Although, I will say that society is evolving and things that we once considered to be taboo are now more commonly accepted these days. I would hope others have the knowledge of proper decorum when using such words and sayings in various settings. I personally seek entertainment value from this forum and may say things in a joking manner that I wouldn't typically say outside of the internet.
As for the usage of the "HBIC" thing, it's really to each its own. I honestly don't find enough significant power behind the usage of "bitch" to be interpreted into an insult. ****....yes, bitch....not so much. I guess primarily the reason for that is the way our generation has tried to redefine what a bitch is and how we use the word. Does it make it right? No, but it's something that seems to become more accepted. I will say it's also all in the way the word is used. The context of a word is key. You can somewhat thank Mean Girls the movie for only glorifying it and making it more attractive way to communicate.

On the other hand, only people who don't have "normal" lives and spend all their free time on computer complain about ("bitching") people on the Internet. You can easily close the web browser and turn your computer off without even crossing your mind why do they do it (acting "like a bitch"). In the reality, people still seem to be good and caring, I think.

I'm the same on the internet as I am in real life BUT you have to know there's a time for that kinda behavior and there time not to act like that.

Who's to say a lot of people here aren't good people and care for others? People can fight like cats and dogs here, but in no way do we know them outside of ATRL and the internet. No one's perfect and everyone has their own individual flaws that make them imperfect. It's unrealistic in my opinion for everyone to act as such and is part of the reason why Jesus Christ died, for all our sins (Sorry, I don't want to offend anyone with a different religious view).
If everyone on ATRL were well behaved and cared about every single poster here, then ATRL would be so stale and lose its luster of what makes it entertaining to come here. I understand where you're coming from though hon!

People seem to forget that Bitch actually meant dog, I also agree with what Foxy is saying. Also the English language is always changing. My linguistics teacher called it 'amelioration' when the meaning of the word improves.

It's stupid when people are bitchy just to be it, most of the time those people are insecure tarts that feel being bitchy will empower them.
I can understand being so when needed and when defending or attacking a point but for the hell of it no. Whoever says they are HBIC is not, just what they would like to bee seen as. A true HBIC is just one and doesn't need to proclaim it, you just are with your actions (which include not being bitchy for the hell of it).
It's like Etta James/Keri/Christina going off on Beyonce. They're attacking Beyonce and people say they're such a bitch and so on. But in the end Beyonce ends up being HBIC for her actions. She doesn't respond back her actions do. With Etta, Bey keeps on singing the song on her tour and submits it to the Grammys and ultimately it helped her achieve a great record. With Keri, Beyonce just making a video of her being a housewife with her 16 Grammys kills everything she said. With Xtina, Beyonce just ignores **** like that and continues to go on her way and focuses on her career which Christina now lacks. In the end she ends up on top. That's a true HBIC.

Where I'm from people say you're bitchy if you dislike people behind their backs then are nice to their face. To be honest I don't see it as a bad thing, I see it as mature. You can't get on with everyone but that's life, you can't just go being unpleasant to people at work/college just because you don't like them

I've always had the impression that people only act like that when they are onnet. It's so much more difficult to enter in a fight, to talk nasty or to look like a badass in real life. That's why i don't even get everything that's being sad on the internet too serious, cuz i know that people are not what the claim here. I think i'm pretty much the same person on and off, minus the ridiculous stan wars which i wouldn't do in real life.
