LA Times: Record of the Year Predictions
http://goldderby.latimes.com/awards_...ews-story.html
Quote:
Now that the Grammy Awards' eligibility period is over, I asked our Gold Derby pundits to pipe in. First to do so is Darrin "DoubleD" Dortch, who sizes up the race for record of the year this way:
I'd be stunned if "Need You Now," "Bad Romance" and "Empire State of Mind" didn't get in. All three records were huge hits with amazing staying power, and even industry execs are describing the songs as "meaty, impressive" career-defining records.
The last two spots are a crapshoot. Eminem is having a huge year and Hollywood loves a comeback, so he'll probably slip in for one of his singles. The Grammy academy favors pop/rock tunes here, so Train's insanely popular "Hey, Soul Sister" will probably get in too, since it sold a slew of downloads. If not, then substitute Train's slot for one of the other ubiquitous hits of the year. I'd be surprised if a non-hit grabbed a ROTY nomination this year. This was yet another crappy year for album sales and whatnot, so voters will want to celebrate artists who were commercially successful.
RECORD OF THE YEAR

"Love the Way You Lie," Eminem featuring Rihanna
"Empire State of Mind," Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys

No mainstream song deserves this more than Bad Romance. None of the other choices compare.

We have to wait for the VH1 year end countdown before we can be sure.

Need You Now was one of the BIGGEST songs of the past year! It has sold over 4,000,000 copies, peaked at #2 on the BBH100, as a country band no less! Even though a lot of people aren't country fans, they shouldn't deny the song's success
