I must admit I sometimes write things like "I love [artist/music/food/etc]" but I don't take the word lightly so I don't say it to people online...it's reserved for an actual lover.

I might think like this because here in Germany, the term 'Ich liebe dich' (I love you) is also only used for lovers and never said towards friends.

I say "I love you" a lot but that's because it has become a casual expression. The depth of its meaning really comes down to the context in which it is used.

And the "I love you" has different meanings, I say I love you to my female friends, my mother and my boyfriend

I say I love you all the time, I really am one of those people who say it compulsively but don't really mean it.

I never said i love you to anyone except for fave artist, foods, events, etc. Just a heavy word to say lightly like that means you're committed to that relationship, i'm not that kind of person. i always say i like you to anyone i've first met. I love you is just going way overboard and may turn out insincere after all.

It's so hard for me to say that, actually i said that to my family members but always in letters and such. Love is too big and too deep of an emotion to just throw it randomly like that.
