Discussion: iTunes sales

Sales these days are very low! US-based album sales have dropped an unbelievable 514.6 million units, or 54.6 percent.

Some artist are huge digital sellers while other are huge physical CD sellers.

I think iTunes should not let you buy each song separately. It's not fair.

If you're a buying a physical CD, you can't buy a song separately. But if you're buying a digital album you can buy each song separately.LOL

iTunes should let people only to buy the entire album. And that's it.

It's OK with the first singles! But the album tracks...NO!

I think that would make album sales much much better.

And I think people should stop repeating nonsense like "Rihanna, Katy & Ke$ha are singles artist! People are only interested in their singles" ...

# I think Ke$ha sold 150k in debut week with Animal! But Blah Blah was #1 on iTunes and it sold 150-200k! Your Love is My Drug sold around 100k! And all those album tracks together sold around 400k.

So 400 (song sales) + 150 (actual album sales) = 550k

What if those 400k people bought album?

But it's not only about Katy, Ke$ha & Rihanna.

For example, Britney's Circus (song) sold 200k, I think in the album release week.

Album sold 500k.

So 500 + 200 + 100k (other songs sales) = 800k

I think giving the consumer the choice of buying only the tracks they want and giving them samples of other tracks is a good business model

limiting it to making them only buy albums as a whole would make a lot of people upset.

it's in a bad state but I don't think punishing the consumer is the right solution

I think the labels have to fundamentally rethink how they sell music in retail stores, because the market is giving them a clear sign that digital distribution is largely favored.
