I'm actually an agnostic though I can come off as an athiests since I vocally refuse to even accept the idea of a "christian" god in any way, shape, or form...I can easily accept the idea of a higher power once detached from all the mainstream ideas of what a god inherently is, which again are undoubetdley christian influenced.
Being Agnostic feels natural though as i'm completely comfortable living my life ignorant to the ultimate reality of our very existence. I kind of view our existence in the same way i vew the unknown realm of extraterrestrials, the afterlife, the prelife, and the connection between our "spiritual" and physical selves....Confusing, interesting, and most importantly unknown.

Yes! I concur with everything you said!

Spirituality can refer to an ultimate or immaterial reality;[1] an inner path enabling a person to discover the essence of their being; or the “deepest values and meanings by which people live.”[2] Spiritual practices, including meditation, prayer and contemplation, are intended to develop an individual's inner life; such practices often lead to an experience of connectedness with a larger reality, yielding a more comprehensive self; with other individuals or the human community; with nature or the cosmos; or with the divine realm.[3] Spirituality is often experienced as a source of inspiration or orientation in life.[4] It can encompass belief in immaterial realities or experiences of the immanent or transcendent nature of the world.

I see how some can conclude that we "must" have been put here by a higher power because of our complexity but i'm the exact opposite. I agree with what Eli said earlier in that life our existence is basically ***** and giggles that a few started taking seriously...
Also, if one believes a higher power gave rise to our reality, wouldn't it logically follow that another higher power created the one who created us? Where does it start?

lol it's like asking where do two parallel lines meet. some people argue that there was no solid beginning or end. some say the universe is part of a larger multiverse, and that the big bang came from a pre-existing universe that had existed forever..blah blah..headache etc. Essentially, science doesn't know, and it might never know. Either way, I do not associate whatever energy/power/god gave rise to our universe with whatever type of god is talked about in religion. Mainly because it doesn't even seem like there's a plan to this. Especially when I look at things like THIS where it looks like god has no idea what on earth he's doing.

That link that caerbayn posted is a mess
I usually agree with the view of nihilism in many ways. I just dont see the point in a lot of this stuff. Spirituality has it's bonuses though.

Christians are Christians and Atheists will be Atheists. Let's just see what will happen to us after we die.
I believe that Atheists are just people who don't want to attend religious rituals (eg: attending and listening to church) because they wanna have fun like internet surfing, clubbing, etc. and they will find an excuse to say that they don't believe in God like searching in the internet why we should not believe in God so that they're parents will not force them to go to church every Sundays.

No, I'm not a fan of Christianity at all. I'll go into more detail tomorrow when I have time

Wow, now that's ignorance. I've done a pretty long blog entry on why I don;t believe in a God and reject religion and this is all because I don't want to get up on a Sunday. I really hope you're just some misguided 12 year old.

Well, CLEARLY, this argument is over. Thanks for clearing that up for us all!
*sigh*
I'm not even going to address the madness that came before this post. Religion arguments never, EVER get anyone anything but trouble and anguish. Let me just say, though, that whoever argued that those who either don't know or don't believe in God shouldn't celebrate Christmas (discostickk?)...wow. That's just...wow. I can probably name on one hand the people I know who still celebrate Christmas as the day of Christ's birth. Christmas is generally seen NOW as a day where either you receive a lot of gifts (mostly for the kids, though us adults better get some gifts too, dammit! ) or get to enjoy the company of the family that you never see anymore because you're all busy with your own lives (for the adults).
I understand that you want to protect your opinions and I respect that, because I'm the same way, but come on. How many people REALLY celebrate Christmas as Christ's birthday?

Even those that do celebrate it as Christ's birth basically just go to church for an hour to celebrate him then it is all about gifts (giving or receiving).

Where the hell do you people live? So you're saying if you ask someone what Christmas celebrates, they'll say "I don't know"??? If you see Christmas as a day with no meaning, then it's really SAD what the world has come to.

If I walked up to 10 children between the ages of 6 and 12 and ask them if they celebrate Christmas and if they know why we celebrate Christmas, I'd say 9 of them would celebrate it while only about 4 of them would know the meaning of the day other than receiving gifts from "Santa".
