Shocking beating that aired on TV has triggered a police investigation.

The disturbing scenes were shown on MTV's Teen Mom, a hit reality show about teenage parents.

Amber Portwood, one of the moms featured on the show, lost her temper when her baby's father came to visit.

She slapped him, punched him, and at one point during the foul-mouthed tirade, she kicked him in the back as he walked downstairs.

Now police in their hometown of Anderson, Indiana have launched a domestic-abuse investigation.

They were tipped off by viewer complaints.

But it's not the first time Portwood has shown her temper. Their baby was in the room during an earlier incident caught on tape.

This beating scene that aired this past Tuesday pissed me off and caused so much attention that their might be more headlines.

Props to Gary for not retaliating to the abuse. He could have easily beat the **** out of Amber, but he showed he was a more mature and bigger person than she is.

Good, she is physically and mentally abusive. She is lazy and only thinks about herself can't even pass a GED test. Gary isn't totally innocent, he does some childish things too but we haven't seen him abise amber like she has him, i think he really cares about his family most importantly his daughter. In the show when was the last time we saw Amber take leah out or hold her?

Seriously, why are people happy about this? Amber is a human being! Gary is such an asshole towards her. If you boyfriend was an asshole towards you, would u continue to let him do it, or hit his ass? She was angry. Everybody gets angry! Nd as for Leah, a mother has the right to do what they what to the child (as long as its ethical and not violent)! The little girl was crying, what is amber supposed to do, try everything to figure out whats wrong?

Girls shouldn't be allowed to hit guys, guys shouldn't be allowed to hit girls. It's not fair in either scenario, guys overpower women but if a girl attacks a guy (I'm talking beats his ass) and he so much as touches her he ends up still coming off as being a complete asshole. Not exactly fair

I can't blame Amber for being ****ing insane 24/7... I'd be a little crazy too if someone pulled that sort of ****ery on my eyebrows.

But in all seriousness, slap her with some penalties and put some limits on her custody of Leah. Amber and Gary (but mostly Amber) have proven themselves to be completely unfit as parents. I end up crying at least once an episode when I think about the damage they are inflicting upon their child, particularly the effect that the constant exposure to Amber & Gary's volatile relationship will have on Leah's ability to bond with others and maintain healthy relationships of her own in the future.

I can't turn off Teen Mom. I'm too addicted. But it's becoming more and more obvious to me that none of the participants of this show are likely to benefit from the experience, aside from selling exclusive interviews to the gossip rags for a couple months' rent (I'm looking at you Fame*****a, not that I probably wouldn't do the same thing if I were in her situation). Certainly the pressures of appearing on the show, building a life around filming, and being subjected to endless criticisms (of their parenting skills and behaviors in general, all of which is merited of course) can only negatively affect the quality of life that these parents can provide for themselves and their children. This will cement a legacy of dysfunction that they will undoubtedly pass along to their children, but I just can't help but feel like some of these troubled parents and troubled children might have a shot at "a better life" (or at least a more stable, less intense/high pressure one) away from the cameras. Yes, I think when the show started there was a certain educational value to the programming, but it seems as though the personal troubles have spiraled so out of control that they need to be dealt with more intimately, not broadcast and presented in such a way that it becomes a form of entertainment. Doing so only glamorizes the very unglamorous reality of teenage parenthood. It was a fun experiment, MTV, but let's pull the plug, or at least limit your filming of these babies raising babies to the occasional "How are They Doing?" special.
