My review:
After two years of waiting, David Archuleta give us his second studio album under
crappy ******** Jive Records. Last 2008, he released his certified Gold album
David Archuleta with a top 2 hit,
Crush. He may be gave us an album for tweenies but he is just beginning back then. This time, he wrote most of the songs. Mostly about ups and downs.
1.
Other Side of Down - 8.1/10
You think he will start the album with a frowning face? Looks like your wrong.
The Other Side of Down is an upbeat song with also an uplifting message. The song, in my opinion, is not a very good album opener. For some of the non-fans of him, they might just skip the album because of an average opener.
2.
Something 'Bout Love - 8/10
His first single. Yup, it flopped. The song is a very good track but it doesn't really a single worthy in my own opinion. It also sounds like a good song that didn't made the cut of his debut album and the song is still for the tweens.
3.
Elevator - 8.5/10
You may hate it from the first listen, especially if you got addicted to SBL but try to listen to it again and again and you will appreciate this song. The calmness and the catchy lyrics of this song will surely get your other side of down join the other side of up
4.
Stomping The Roses - 9/10
Probably one of his best. The song is like David Archuleta's
Since You've Been Gone because of the guitar riffs and the chorus is catchy. This might convert some fans.
5.
Who I Am - 8/10
I probably underestimate it when i heard it's preview on Amazon but the full version is AWESOME. Its probably one of the songs that you want to hear on his concerts.
6.
Falling Stars - 9.5/10
After some life giving songs we are now gonna listen to his serious songs and that will start with this song. His falsetto at the chorus is just way beyond excellent. The song is just excellent, one of the best ballads ever.
7.
Parachutes & Airplanes 10/10
Ever since I heard this song for the first time in live version, I knew this will be included in his album. Probably his best song ever. It's kinda Breakevenish at the chorus but the song is perfect especially if you are bored, moody, or the weather is windy.
8.
Look Around - 8/10
After 2 songs for broken hearted listeners, he will give us a clubish upbeat song,
Look Around. The line
get up and look around is something that will stuck on your head for 5 minutes. The song also looks like he is riding the Electropop bandwagon.
9.
Good Place 9.2/10
Do you miss Mandy Moore's innocent days? Some early 2000 moody pop-rock songs? Well, we got what you need. Just listen to this and it will bring you nostalgic songs like your pop-rock bands of early 00's.
10.
Complain - 7.9/10
Another excellent pop-rock song from him. It's like Good Place 2.0 with a very good message about relationships.
11.
Things Are Gonna Get Better - 9.1/10
Ever since I heard this one live, I thought this is a song that Elliot Yamin could sing. The studio version completely blow my life away. If you have problems at your life, remember,
I know that things are gonn get better.
12.
My Kind of Perfect - 7.8/10
This is a good way to end an album. A song with piano music. I really think this one will be better if they did it with some band music.
Conclusion: His songs are more matured. Maybe the message is still about love but he delivered it maturely. It will be one of the most underrated albums this year. Oh and its much better than his debut one. If you are ready to embrace the music of the 19 year old American Idol runner up, listen to this one.
