I definitely don't blame him for shoving that paparazzi. That was out of line. These guys can do there job without getting 6 inches away from the celebrities face. BUT, from the video I watched in no way shape or form did I see Russell "protect" Katy. From what I watched it looks like he basically just left her miles behind him and fended for himself. Even when he's pushes the pap, Katy is far behind. If I was in this situation I would hope that my boyfriend is holding me extremely close by him, while shoving the paparazzi away from us, not leaving me to the wolves. And maybe they didn't capture it, but I don't see any of photographers trying to get an upskirt picture of Katy...

He's staying faithful to katy and protecting her. I approve.
I have no idea what she sees in him, but if he's protecting her like this, then that's what I call a good relationship.
Most paparazzi deserve to be beaten once in a while.
