Thanks to everyone who voted this past round. Once again, the rock/alternative songs are dropping like flies. This time around, two of the three eliminated songs came from two of the most successful and beloved bands on the planet. Say goodbye to...
"Eleanor Rigby" by The Beatles, which probably suffered from being the only "oldie" on the voting list. Its early exit is disappointing -- unsurprising, however, considering how little respect The Beatles get on ATRL. Despite numerous votes every round, a small but consistent group of supporters managed to keep the song alive until now (which can at least be viewed as a small victory, I suppose).
Coldplay's "Clocks," a Grammy winner for Record of the Year in 2003. In a post-Gaga world, the irony of this elimination is that "Clocks" is the most dance-oriented song Coldplay has ever released.
And finally, "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus. Does this early exit signal that her star has dimmed with the failure of Can't Be Tamed? More likely, it was a cruel revenge exacted by those same angry rock fans.
