Some label executives say expectations were too high because most female pop artists commonly sell a lot of track downloads but don't enjoy big debut-week album sales. "When I saw how Perry was doing, I was shocked," a senior sales executive at a competing major distribution company says. "But then I remembered that Fergie's 'The Dutchess' only did about 160,000 units in her first week in September [2006] and it took until December until the fans started buying her like an album artist."
I don't, unfortunately. Half of that album's sales came from "Big Girls Don't Cry" and there isn't really a ballad on TD that sounds like a mega-hit. "Firework" will be a mid-sized hit but not huge, and "Peacock" sounds too familiar so it's not going to be that big either. Maybe with a re-release or LFN + "E.T." she can sell Duchess numbers.
Yeah i hope her lable choose LFN over Peacock.
Peacock is controversy but it sounds like a fun song that people will forget quckly.
I can see Last friday night become a smash hit.
when she says "we can dance until we die" I get chills, I love that song! "Teenage Dream" song is an undenyable smash! I see her going platium late late 2010 or early 2011. But who knows???
Those Katy Flop Threads Are Get annyoing already
Of Course, she didn't did the expected, but she did well, and she will continue to sell, Look at The Debut Numbers of OOTB and It ended up seeling 1.200.000 copies, and IKAG it was Really Huge!
Tennage Dream albumis already #1 at the US, Canada, UK, Australia & Ireland!!!
FLOP??? disappointing sales? I Donīt think so!!! so please STOP haters
This era would be HUGE!!!!!
Katy
This era is going to be HUGE compared to her last efforts but not` HUGE per se. She's a mega singles artist and she does have alot of potential but she has to expand her sound and image. She's to fluffy IMO. She gotta take some bigger musical risks is what im saying.
The article did NOT say she's flopping. It just said it didn't meet first week expectations. THATS ALL.
That said, I don't believe this is going to pull in legendary numbers. TD and CG are great songs but Firework is awful in my opinion. Peacock is OK but I don't know, it's not as catchy as the previews.
She will keep on selling well. I feel like people will need a few more singles to actually buy the album. I hope she releases Firework to show people that the album is more than just the average pop record. California Gurls and Teenage Dream are rather generic songs. But this album is definitely not a flop.
