Pop Queen JANET JACKSON is considering shunning record labels to release her own music, after finding herself without industry backing for the first time in her career.

The Nasty singer signed a contract with A&M Records at the tender age of 16 in 1982 before moving to Virgin Records in 1991 as part of a record-breaking deal. She left the company in 2007 to sign another multi-million agreement with Island Records, which came to an abrupt end a year later (08) after the release of just one disc.

Jackson is taking time away from the music scene to concentrate on her movie career, but when she returns, the singer is open to taking complete control of her musical releases - despite interest from the industry’s major players.

She tells Britain’s Daily Mirror, “All the major labels have called and they want to sit down and talk about me signing. But I need to figure out if that’s the route I want to take or if I want to do something more independent.

“The latter might be better, where I’d be able to call the shots when creating my own album. I haven’t decided

I don't know what to think.

I think Janet is at a point in her career where she has already proved her status as an icon and legend and doesn't need to focus on selling anymore. I think Independent would probably be better for her at this point so she can get the full creative control she wants and not worry about disappointing a record label with underwhelming sales.

A lot of indie artists are trying so hard, taking all available chances just to go mainstream.

This seems fake to me. Is the Daily Mirror reputable? Isn't it just a tabloid?

But that is her issue going forward. Right now she is not even involved in any music, just the new film. I have no idea what to expect of her music career in the future.

I kinda agree with you, but I still love her and I still want her to get successful again, to have big smashes on the radio, big budget for music videos and everything that comes with a record label. She deserves to have that.

I think an independent route can work very well for her. She can afford big budget music videos and she can send her songs to radio stations. I think she's wrapping up work on For Coloured Girls... soon and I hope she stops with the acting and goes back into the studio.

There's talk that Nothing could be nominated for an Oscar (Best Original Song from a Motion Picture). I truly hope it is!

...i guess...she's still relevant so it could work...but if the major players in the industry are trying to sign her then why wouldn't they give her as much creative control as she wants?? i mean she is Janet JAckson...not amerie...so why not just get a label to spend all their money on your relevance
