There is always the risk of alienating fans when a [female] artist changes her musical style. See Mariah, Christina, Jewel...
Rihanna and Beyonce's previous albums were more successful commercially than their latest. It just so happened that digital sales got a boost in 2007. So the digital era is a different story.
Well deserved and still it's just a few deserved lot more, but glad it didnt flop that hard!
