Zac Efron has claimed that he walked out on starring in the Footloose remake because he didn't like the script for the project.
Speaking to Details, the 22-year-old revealed that he felt the revamped Footloose, which would have been directed by his High School Musical helmer Kenny Ortega, was straying too far from the original.
"All the things I loved about Footloose I couldn't find in the project," Efron said. "They just weren't there. I couldn't see myself doing it."
Efron added that he had to call Ortega himself to inform him he didn't want to make the movie. "I love Kenny with all my heart. It was literally the hardest phone call I've ever made," he said.
Ortega admitted that he failed in his attempts to convince Efron to make the film, saying: "I was doing my very, very best to excite him and inspire him into wanting to do this. I believed in my heart that we could do it together as a team, and I fought to keep him in the game."
Good on you Zac... only thing is you're not the most credible actor, you should be grabbing every opportunity you get with both hands before you get old and lose your looks!
Well, if the remake ends up being successful, I think Efron should have stuck with it. Because so far, his films outside musicals with the exception of 17 Again has been flops. :-/
