Agreed. That's why i was kinda dissappointed when i saw how it charted.
I remember when Russian Roulette had its radio world debut on KIIS FM. As soon as it was over, Ryan Seacrest and his co-host were like, "Ok, idk how I feel about that, I guess it's a grower."
Popular music shouldn't be meaningful, I doubt anyone even pays attention to the lyrics of the songs they hear on the radio.

Honestly if you're into meaningful music then don't measure the success of a song on its chart position. It's pointless. Pop is meant to be fun and often disposable.
Popular music is meant to be POPULAR. It doesn't mean it should be stripped of all artistic integrity (disposable) and meaning for the simple sake of getting a hit.
A pop song can be both meaningful & successful. One can coincide with the other.
& why is GagaDaily of all people saying pop music shouldn't be meaningful when Gaga is supposedly planning to tackle politics on her next album?

Covering such topics as love and celebrity on her previous efforts, this new album will veer more toward the political. "Why are we still talking about 'Don't ask, don't tell'? It's like, what f---ing year is it? It makes me crazy! And I have been for three years baking cakes — and now I'm going to bake a cake that has a bitter jelly. The message of the new music is now more bitter than it was before," she teased. "Because the sweeter the cake, the more bitter the jelly can be."
it doesn't have to be meaningful, at least it shouldn't sound so shallow, like listening to a **** or a bunch of drunk people barfing.. some metaphors and clever lines are welcome though.
Maybe meaningful is the wrong choice of word. I just wish radio had music that was unique and substantial again. Everything on the radio these days just sounds so formulaic and recycled like I've already heard it before.
We need more music like this to smash again.
Epic. The vocals, lyrics, production, the beautiful MiMi.
The sad truth is that most kids nowadays just classify songs that contains "world", "change", "giving" and "peace" in its lyrical contents as meaningful.
