What do you think is more important in a good pop song: the lyrics/singing or the melody/beat?
I think i definately look for a hot beat rather than lyrics. I listen to instrumentals a lot and some dance music which doesnt have singing. Also because i listen to a lot of pop music I dont think an amazing voice is that important (if you want an amazing voice listen to opera or some ****)
Depends!
What pops out, or better, what calls my attetion in a music that will be
But almost all the time is the instrumental itself because i make music and when i listen to another songs i focus on the instrumental itself, maybe i can learn some new stuffs or even get ideas to remix that song
I always used to listen to the melody of a song without making out the words to it first. Now It's quite the opposite. So, I have to go with Melody as being more important than the lyrics to a song. Because without it, you would have NMT.
Depends on my mood, but I usually prefer lyrics over melody, unless it's a lovely one. I like songs with an addictive beat too... well, I like all of them.
It totally depends. In pop songs, I definitely look for beats along with ok lyrics...not looking for Ke$ha lyrics, although she makes great pop songs. In ballads, the lyrics are key because you don't have a great melody to back it up.
The melody isn't the beat/production, the melody is part of the songwriting. It's how you say the words and at what pace, rhythm, speed, etc. Like poetry.
Melody >>>.
A song without melody is just spoken word set to a beat. But that's not to say what's being said isn't important.
another way I think im more into melodies is that i hate when people do acoustic covers of my favourite songs e.g. Bad Romance, Gimme More etc. it just sounds stupid
but i do like remixes where the vocals are distorted/changed and they mix up the beats

What do you guys think?
I think you sort of make the point for why lyrics/singing are more important. Because of the fact that you as well as many other people can listen to instrumentals means that when there are lyrics, they better be damn good. If a song has horrible lyrics or singing I instantly write it off. It's the easiest way for me to know if the person actually cares about their music or if they're just doing it for the paycheck.
You can get so much emotion out of an amazing vocal performance.

Sometimes i do that but sometimes I will heard a song from an artist I dont like and dismiss it but then if i listen to the instrumental I think its actually a really good song. e.g. Sean Kingston "Fire Burning" i hate this song but love the beat (not surprising since its produced by RedOne and i love GaGa)
I'd say melody because it transcends language barriers.
But lyrics do matter a lot to me. It's really upsetting what lyrics are considered passable these days--if I'd known how low the standards were, I could have been writing hit songs at age five!
