Lady Gaga’s reunion with her ex-boyfriend is causing serious rift with her family
Lady Gaga couldn’t be happier since rekindling her relationship with ex-boyfriend Luc Carl, who she dated for three years from 2005. Her friends are even saying she’s desperate to marry him - but not everyone is thrilled to see her back in her ex’s arms.
In fact, Look can reveal that the risky new romance has sparked a massive fall-out with her father Joseph, who is thought to blame Luc for his daughter’s erratic past mistakes, including taking hardcore drugs like LSD and cocaine.
An insider revealed: “The idea of Stefi [Gaga’s real name] being back with Luc is really worrying her dad Joseph, mum Cynthia and sister Natali. When Stefi was with Luc, she wouldn’t call for days, or she’d ring up at 2am talking about dragons and strange spirits of dead people. One time, she became so convinced she could talk to Any Warhol’s ghost. And the pair of them would often be drunk in the middle of the day. Joseph thought it was a tragic way for a bright, talented girl to spend her time and he’s understandably worried she could revert how she used to be.”

By his own admission, Luc, 29, is a hard-living, big-drinking rocker who hangs around with a wild crowd. He’s written a book out next year, called The Drunk Diet, and he boasts on his blogs about being drunk for 12 days straight and confesses to “love drinking so f**king much that I found a way making it my job”.
When Gaga, 24, and Luc were living together in New York, her dad stopped speaking to her. “Joseph is a no-nonsense, respectable businessman and he worked hard to give Stefi a really good education - she went to a really expensive private girls’ school,” says a friend. “he felt she was throwing her life away and he stopped talking to her. After her relationship with Luc broke up, Joseph and Stefi started talking again and she became focused on her work. So for her to be back with him again is heartbreaking.”
The pair reignited their love affair over a month ago after Gaga broke up with stylist Matthew Williams and following her subsequent health scare (she tested borderline positive for lupus. They got close again when they started talking following her onstage collapse in New Zealand, and finally started dating again. “Stef’s been so upset about her split with Matthew that its possible she’s gone back to Luc so she can feel loved by someone, but he’s very bad for her,” reveals a source. “She was taking time off in New York, where Luc promotes nightclubs and works as an author, when the pair reconnected. They’ve been spotted on low-key dates at the bars he owns, called St. Jerome’s, and Welcome To The Johnsons, and at his home in Brooklyn.”
Gaga’s family first realised she had hooked up with her former love when they saw photographs of her drunk at the New York Mets game in a bra and knickers, giving cameras the finger.
“Her family saw Luc in the photos and alarm bells rang,” says a close family friend. “They realised she had been drunk at the game in the day and they asked what she was doing. She told them it was nothing but since then she has admitted she’s back with Luc and that she loves him. Her Behavior has already become erratic - she turned up to Natali’s graduation in a really odd outfit and made the day about her, not about her sister’s hard work at school. She’s being very selfish - all the embarrassing things she does are played out in the media now and her family have neighbors, work and school mates to face after her behaviour.”
Gaga has said she and Luc had an obsessive relationship and she often cooked dinner for him semi naked. “He used to say: ‘Baby, you’re so sexy!’” She remembers fondly. “I’d be like: ‘have some meatballs.’” The singer admitted that she was heavily into drugs at the same time the pair were together, saying “It was about being a artist. I wasn’t a lazy addict. I would make demo tapes and send them around. I did bags and bags of cocaine.”
Gaga and Luc split up following a blazing row on holiday in the Cayman Islands in 2008 - where he told her she’d never be successful - and she says it was her father who got her off drugs. “He looked at me one and said: ‘You’re f***in’ up, kid.’ And I looked at him and though: ‘How does he know that I’m high right now?’” she says. “And he never said a word about the drugs, not one word. But he said: ‘I just wanna tell you that anyone you meet while you’re like this, and any friend that you make in the future while you are with this thing, you will lose.’ And we never talked about it again.”
Her family is also increasingly worried about the effect Gaga’s wild nights out and all day drinking benders with Luc will have on her health. “She’s tested borderline positive for lupus, so drinking drinking a lot is not good for her health and she’s a fragile girl. She was depressed for months when she and Luc split up and it took a long time to pull herself back together,” says a friend. “Now she has let him get under her skin again so they fear if he dumps her this time, she could spin out of control and lose the career she’s worked so hard for.”
And it’s not just her family who are concerned about Luc being back on the scene. “Luc being Stef’s life again is bad news.” says a friend. “She looks awful at the moment. Her skin is spotty, she has dark circles under her eyes and she’s complaining she’s exhausted. Everyone’s begging her to walk away from him.”
But its not all bad. The star is insisting her family that Luc never did hard drugs with her, and he’s trying to turn his life around, as he’s become hooked on exercise and eating healthily, despite his love for binge drinking.
But whatever Gaga’s dad thinks of the situation, Luc doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Last week, he wrote on Twitter that “Love is the new black” and Gaga’s admitting that he was the only boyfriend she has ever truly loved. She wrote most her first album about him, and recently debuted a song called You and I about Luc, including the lyrics: “This time, I’m not leaving without you.”
