La Roux has selected their next single, choosing the dark “Tigerlily” as the fifth single from their hugely successful self-titled debut.
The duo have already shot the music video for the song, which will center around lead singer Elly Jackson stalking an androgynous looking woman.
“It was really important for me to have someone that was as androgynous – if not more androgynous – than I am, ” says Elly from the set of the video. “Obviously people are going to go. “ooh, is there a girl in her video because she likes girls”, that’s bound to be what happens, but it’s just really a statement about androgyny, and really if I had a choice I would have someone who isn’t a boy or girl — I’d have someone who strangely had both.”
Well, at the very least, the music video is going to get people talking. It also helps that “Tigerlily” is one of the best cuts from the La Roux album, and it should make a powerful final single to close the record with and usher in the next album, which they’re already writing.
Elly Jackson’s androgyny could actually be harnessed better as a marketing and promotional tool than it already has been. There’s not really any androgynous singers in the mainstream, so Elly should play it up even more during the band’s next album to help them carve out an even more unique identity.
Anyway, take a look at Elly on the set of “Tigerlily” below. It looks like it’s going to be pretty awesome.
In for the Kill is still the second US single, correct?
Not sure on that one, I think this will take its place - and maybe In For The Kill will be released afterwards. They better not waste the masterpiece that is In For The Kill
