I can hear Owl City-like synths at the back, and IDK but it also gives me a MLWSWY vibe. Maybe they're going for that sound - a hybrid of whats currently playing on Pop radio nowadays. (Well MLWSWY was a bit old now. )
BTW I love the latter part of the song more than the beginning. From the bridge to the last chorus >>>.
