The Backstreet Boys have parted ways with their longtime record label after 16 years on the roster. The boy band signed to Jive Records in 1994 and released seven albums through the label over the years.
They have now announced their departure from Jive in a post on their official website, titled "Freedom", which dismisses rumors they were dumped from the books because of falling album sales. The post reads, "So the news is out! The Backstreet Boys are no longer signed to long time record label Jive Records. The amicable split is very exciting for the group."
Bandmember Brian Littrell adds, "This is the best thing, at the best time that could have ever happened for us. We are confident in the future of our band, and are looking forward to the new things to come. 2011 is going to be a great year for us."
Wow. It is really interesting to see the trends of music buyers. I mean, think about it. 10 years ago, Boy Bands were the HOTTEST THING IN MUSIC. Whatever they had out, people bought. Now...they're nowhere to be found.
Poor them. They should just find new jobs. They have the connections to do so. Of course their inflated egos probably won't let them leave the spotlight.
They're not a simple boyband. They are an icon for pop music. They have been influencing many singers since they achieved success. It's like Abba or U2. Everyone will always remember their famous songs even though they're not on media anymore.
I think they should do a different thing from now on. Starting from an urban R&B which is going to be more radio friendly. They have to be commercial again. I guess JIVE wanted them to be back to their roots in "this is us" because that album was a masterpiece of the good songs they released in the 90s. But their old fans got a little ashamed to buy the same thing in 2010. This is not a trend nowadays. The solution is to gain public again from a new work. They have to start again. No more comebacks. If they don't do this. They'll probably become a NKOTB part 2: old guys doing a teenage pop. It's kind of weird

Well I missed their 2005 album but I liked what the song Inconsolable but This Is Us (I actually bought it) was really good
Straight Through My Heart was a good single but not good enough for radio
If only they released Masquerade, That song is

This is wrong on so many levels. U2 still make music that appeals to their core fanbase--their sound has evolved very slowly over the years. U2 have never had issues selling their albums or their tickets. This is for several reasons; one is that their brand of soft rock will never be passé. The other is that Bono does not allow U2 to be irrelevant. Somehow, he will get into the public consciousness.
ABBA were always consistent and they broke up before they became a tragic flop like BSB. ABBA are a frequent punchline but arguably, BSB is even more made fun of.
