Of course the image was made in the name of having a little fun with a prominent issue in American society, but I fear there will always be a segment of the population that will not take this picture for what it is; a comedic piece. For those sort of people, this image is a truthful representation of a larger conspiracy organized by the liberal media and supported by liberal politicians, who have decided to use a cartoon character to imbue the impressionable younger demographics with compassion for illegals and the idea that immigration laws should be lax (and just to be clear, in their world any person who looks even remotely Hispanic is likely to have immigrated to the United States illegally). There is of course no logical basis for this sort of thinking and the whole thing reeks of conspiracy theory, but that won't keep Jed from Missouri's boot heel from e-mailing this picture to all of his like-minded friends as a warning of the horrible direction in which our country is headed. It won't keep him from starting that Anti-Dora the Explorer Facebook group that will be a smashing success with the 4 conservative friends you have. It will be preached about in fundamentalist churches where sermons are sometimes more political than religious in nature, and Fox News will call upon Glenn Beck to deliver his "hilarious" take on the story in a way that halfway explains why the picture should only be taken as a joke (just to cover their asses), but really only does more to fuel misguided perceptions about immigration and immigrants.
