i say america because in the context of today's global relations, we all know what piece of land you're referring to when you say america. maybe in south america they think differently but we all know what "america" actually matters on the global stage.

when people say "fat stupid greedy americans" they arent referring to chileans or peruvians. when you see a headline in your newspaper and it says "America does _____ " you know what part of america that story is about, the one the world cares about.

Yes, everyone I know pretty much always uses America in real life. Since America is not a continent there is no confusion on what we mean.

Yes. And I honestly don't see how referring to US citizens who are indeed Americans in both the national and continental sense as "Americans" disrespects anyone else living in North or South America or somehow diminishes their right to acknowledge themselves as continental Americans.

Latin Americans get so mad when you refer to the US as America The US learns the seven-continent system while most of Latin America learns the six-continent system (North and South America are just América, aka the Americas in the US).

I just find it funny how they try to tell us what the name of our country is No one complains that the United Mexican States is just called Mexico or that the Republic of Columbia is simply called Colombia, etc. Calling the United States of America simply America is the exact same

In English, America = the US = United States. It may be different in Spanish (and it is), but we're talking about how it's said in English on here.

I do think the term "American" as in "from the United States" is subtly offensive. If people from the US call themselves Americans just because they were born in the US, then that means that the rest of the people from the Americas are not American, or not as American as people from the US.
