In my opinion, it is not good. I'm not a fan of Janet Gaynor (in this or any film), and I don't know what Fredric March was thinking with that performance of his.

The early color remains the only reason that film is of interest to me, but it's a waste since the cinematography is a mess. Of course the 1954 film remains the definitive version, both technically and artistically. The 1937 version is old-fashioned even for its time, wooden and stodgy and really, really corny.

There are so many better films from that year alone. Angel, Dead End, Make Way For Tomorrow, Marked Woman...
