Anyways we've always been a Christian nation. Separation of church and state refers solely to the exclusion of religious leaders from politics: it by no means says that politics and laws shouldn't be Christian!

As the man you are so inclined to stan for would say: "WRONG!" The phrase "separation of church and state" does not even appear in the Constitution, but Thomas Jefferson, who was a DEIST, used it to describe the Establishment Clause, which is worded as thus in the First Amendment:
Quote:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
