In any case, actors tend to be a little smarter than musicians. And I do feel that actors are doing the heavy lifting in terms of speaking out politically: Angelina Jolie, Kerry Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Kesha, Viola Davis, et cetera.
In conclusion, yes, I agree with Madonna that more of Hollywood needs to speak up, however, if you're a
stupid person—and many celebrities are—or have a silly image, no wants to hear your "thoughts on the issues."

True, with Bush you know what happened, there were very few making a statement, but now with Trump the situation feels very different than with Bush, especially certain actors who are speaking more and more.
I agree with Madonna, however, it really depends on the artist or celebrity. By that I mean, no one, and I mean no one, wants to hear Katy Perry talk about politics. Don't take this the wrong way, but she's not a smart woman, and not all that articulate (just watch her interviews). No one wants to hear Beyoncé talk about politics (and she knows that, and that's why she still hasn't spoken out openly about politics). No one wants to hear Justin Bieber talk about politics. No one wants to hear Kim Kardashian talk about politics. No one wants to hear Diplo talk about politics. The list goes on. It's no secret that many, many, celebrities are very, very stupid.
Now, that being said, the smart celebrities do have some sort of small responsibility to say something on important issues. Madonna uses her intelligence and power to speak out on very important topics. Taylor Swift is smart and articulate but remained a little too quiet. Justin Timberlake will always keep his mouth shut because he's a pawn of the industry, an artist who uses Black culture but won't acknowledge any political struggle pertaining to Black Americans. Interestingly, no one ever calls out Ellen DeGeneres for her relatively quiet stance. She may do a generic, tv-friendly-for-soccer-moms "Trump is cray" joke, but Ellen has a huge platform and hasn't spoken on the issues strongly enough—she did make sure to call Kathy Griffin and complain about being in her book last year, though. In any case, actors tend to be a little smarter than musicians. All real artists are inherently political. Welcome to ART101.
Very true. The more famous you become, the more political you inherently become.
For example, Taylor Swift doesn't say a word about her political stance, and everyone makes her out to be a Red America, Donald Trump supporter. Beyoncé made a stupid song about hot sauce and Red Lobster and the republicans and alt-right now thinks she's the leader of the New Black Panthers, set out to destroy the police force and White Americans.

Discouraging "stupid people" from voicing their opinions is elitist/classist/racist.
By stupid people, I meant stupid celebrities. A stupid normal person in the real world can voice any political opinion they want—I support that. Stupid celebrities should definitely not voice their opinions on politics or important topics, not in public anyway. And the stupid celebrities that are juuuust smart enough to know that they're stupid, usually tend to keep quiet on politics, and I respect them for that.
She's right. People who have a platform and are continuously silent on these issues are privileged cowards. Especially when it has to do with the leader of our country. This is why I have a new found respect for Katy, Gaga, and Miley and lost a great deal of respect for certain other artists.
I see we've all forgotten the election and slipped back into our sad stanning ways. It's dumb - the fact is, anyone that spoke out against Trump and in support of Hillary, did a good thing.
I don't give a f**k what you think of Hillary - she was the better option. You do not vote for a proud racist, mocker of the disabled, supporter of Islamophobia, a wall-builder, a fragile little man so insecure he tweets responses to literally every comment made against him, a man so rich and entitled that tragic nobodies think is "relatable". It's a damn mess. And every single celebrity that had a platform to voice their disgust for his behaviour was extremely well called for.
we were truly praying. We were praying. She was on her computer. She's friends with someone who was working on Hillary [Clinton]'s campaign and was getting blow-by-blow reports, and at one point she was like, "It's not looking good." It was just like watching a horror show. And then she was reading from the Quran, and I was reading from the Zohar.
I was cackling at this. I mean I get the seriousness of the situation, but just picturing Madonna and her friend praying, chanting & reciting the Zohar/Quran deep into the night

While a few blocks down the road Azealia slashes a couple of chicken throats for Donald.
Yeah, I disagree. Not everyone/everything needs to be political.
Some of that interview reads like a complete mess.
It doesn't have to be about politics in the literal sense of the words that they have to get involved into the discussion but if you know you have a big following and people in your circle of fans might be scared or anxious....why not just even acknowledge them?
Are they just good enough to take money from and say **** it? If you have the platform use it, even if it's just giving words of comfort or encouragement.
