I see what you're saying but I'm confident that they're only like threatening us with another love triangle to subvert it. Maybe he'll turn into the purely male friend that Rebecca is lacking since she seems to treat the men in her lives as love interests (Greg) or somewhat obsolete (Trent/Hector and even Darryl).
I didn't have an issue with him and Becks getting back together because I thought it was hinted at quite well with how she's still obsessed with him and pretending to move on and especially with the revelation of how he's never not had a partner and can't function without someone adoring him. I think the fact that it was back to back episodes added to the feeling of 'well that was quick'.
If I had to guess I'd say that this reunion is kind of to set up her actually breaking from him next season
