I was hearing an interview on the radio by the author of that book "Can't kill us all", and he thinks BLM will disappear because Obama actually had a huge part in uncovering police brutality by collecting data, pressuring police departments, making thousands of inspections, etc.
He said Trump will likely reverse all of this, can BLM survive the Trump era?
A big part of why BLM thrives is because of social media. Unless Trump is going to cancel facebook, I hardly doubt. If anything it's going to get bigger it seems.
Racist cops aren't gonna stop abusing their power just because there's a new president. I doubt it but hopefully we won't need the movement in the future.
It's a different time. It helps (and hurts in some ways) that BLM is a decentralized movement. They can't be MLK'd or Black Panther'd by the FBI since the sentiment is so generalized among all blacks. If anything were to really challenge BLM, they'd have the entire backing of the Western black community, at home and abroad.
The only thing that could undo them is bad PR and with black twitter's ingenuity and activism, that doesn't seem likely. So they won't be Gaddafi'd either.
Hopefully there's a birth of a new anti-police brutality movement that embraces allyship and inclusivity as a pathway to getting things done. BLM sealed their faith with their attitude.
They can't stop us all. BLM is a special movement tbh in that a vast majority of black people support it in some form and the power of social media can't really be suppressed. It it does die off, it won't be because of Trump though.
i think they alienated too much of the whites and other races that it will be hard for them... police now feels secure and safe to be hard and tough...
