The North is truly great. It'll take decades for the South to catch up

I know, but I'm not comparing New York's public universities to international universities. I'm comparing them to other prestigious public universities.

Well, I wonder how this would apply to Cornell because 2 or 3 of their undergraduate colleges are sponsored by the SUNY system. Currently, if you are a New York resident you get a reduced price if you go to one of those Cornell undergrad colleges.

I think nothing would change as this free tuition only applies to public schools.

This is so not true! We still have decent colleges under SUNY and CUNY and their science students are as competitive as those from the likes of Columbia and NYU. Not to mention some of their science classes are equally hard!
People are always so quick to belittle public colleges

Imagine being so removed from the lives of poor people that you look at free education and go "hmmm, but they're not prestigious". Jesus Christ.

There are multiple ways high-achieving low-income students are able to afford prestigious private schools, which offer generous financial aid packages. If I were poor I would look elsewhere.
