the "creature" part was meant to describe a one-of-a-kind rare and never before seen thing. He was obviously using it as a metaphor for her uniqueness and talent, rather than using it in a derogatory way.

Its more so picking your battles. This wasn't someone that was worth the battle and harassment over. When you fight everyone, you gain many enemies who can defeat your message from all sides. When you focused on select ones, you are more like to be effective in creating the changes you want.
