Hmm.
Wanted a bit more time, but I guess this is what it is?
My top twenty of the year - as in 2016 singles: (with honorable mentions going to Lush Life by "Zara Larsson" and Wasting Time by Day Wave)
1. Real Love Baby (Father John Misty): I was sat at a desk when I saw this on another forum. I played it once, and texted ATRL users/friends - with tears in my eyes. No 2016 single matched it.
2. Formation (Beyoncé): Just watched it again - so audacious. I cannot believe she pulled it off.
3. Open Your Eyes (School of Seven Bells): When I heard this, in January of last year, I thought everything would be better.
4. One Strike (All Saints)
5. Your Best American Girl (Mitski): My dating life, my twenties, in less than four minutes.
6. Work (Rihanna featuring Drake)
7. Out of the Woods (Taylor Swift): I was riding in a cab to/fro a shoot, with some woman who knew some guy. She took out her sticker and said "what moves you most?" I said 'art.' This song was playing on the car radio.
8. Cranes in the Sky (Solange)
9. The Greatest (KING)
10. Near to the High of Life (Japandroids): Everything I needed, and everything I hope to create going forward. The energy!
11. Radio Kids (Strand of Oaks): A song for those who get old, without expecting it. As you'll see in my next list, all I did was go back to the past. This record GETS IT.
12. In The Morning I'll Be Better (Tennis)
13. Lake by the Ocean (Maxwell)
14. All Night (Beyoncé)
15. Wings of Love (liv): I never knew that what I needed in my life was Lykke Li, her baby daddy, and assorted Swedes singing harmony. A calming balm for a ****ed up year.
16. Casual Party (Band of Horses)
17. Burn The Witch (Radiohead)
18. Black Beatles (Rae Sremmurd)
19. Vice (Miranda Lambert): in retrospect, this should be a lot higher. A LOT higher.
20. Sweep Me Off My Feet (Pond)
