It's been out for a little over month and the numbers aren't looking too good.

WW Total: $355,781,943

That's nowhere near Zootopia, Finding Dory, or The Jungle Book's box office gross. What's going on?

People will say "because she's not white", but the film is nowhere near as good as the other two recent Disney Princess movies (Tangled and Frozen).

I was really bored throughout 95% of the movie

The main characters are ugly as sin


I'm referring to the guy, the girl is just average and forgettable.
Like...they could have made him look good, why did they do him like that? What were they thinking? Both of the guys looked good in Frozen, even the evil one.
Also the trailer just didn't sell the movie for me. It does not seem interesting.

Because it didn't have as much audience in the mammal or aquatic demographic. Every man, woman, son, neighbor, and pet went to see the other movies.

It hasn't even been released everywhere. And Zootopia (and Frozen's) performances are exceptions. Finding Dory was a sequel to a beloved movie, and TJB was a live action of another well-liked movie.

It hasn't been marketed nearly as much as the last two Disney princess movies.

Character design is unflattering. Very racist of Disney to always uglify Island/asian people. They always make them look almost animal themselves. Case and point (below)



They always make beautiful white protagonists though. Very telling, Disney.

I know it just opened in the UK and Latin America and doesn't open in Asia until March, but the domestic numbers just aren't as impressive as the other Disney movies released this year

This honestly. I don't understand the surprise, Disney movies were never really huge blockbuster to begin with :

The Princess and the Frog : $267 million
Tangled : $591.8 million
Wreck-It-Ralph : $471.2 million
... (just to quote some)

So Moana's performance is just quite ... standard.

What?

I think the movie is amazing, but the thing is that mostly every animated Disney film is critically praised so it's expected. This film deserves the same success as the other animated films . I mean it'll just be an embarrassment if it grosses less than the Secret Life of Pets

The Domestic #'s are solid enough, definitely underperforming internationally
