It did
330m=2.6x its budget so it has already broke even before DVD sales and home media.

Also dream works (aside from shrek and Kung fu) isn't as big as Disney so no idea why you are expecting it to gross that much.

Also the soundtrack was a huge success considering CSTF is the best selling song of the year so they probably made money there as well.

Oh, really? That is not exactly what a studio like DreamWorks would expect from an animated movie. They were clearly expecting it to be bigger, hence the amount of money they spent on promotion.

Troll dolls haven't been popular in years & the transparent attempt to capitalize on 90s nostalgia would turn off anybody over the age of 10. Everything about it seems so calculated & joyless.

They didn't spend any on Marketing. Fox did as distributor. The film was already paid for and dreamworks was compensated for their working under the distribution deal with Fox. Any money the movie makes over its budget goes to FOX and then down the line but the primary cast and crew received their base pay.
