The girls (not just Tinashe, but the others too) are fooled into believing it can happen for them, but the truth is only a handful of women get to become huge pop icons for the masses. And we already have that handful.
There is nothing wrong with building a fanbase doing indie R&B and being a songwriter as long as you do it the right way. Look at Solange.
She is indie and had an album just as relevant as her superstar sister's this year. In fact, people probably like Solo more

Kind of like the Mya of her generation.
The selling out isn't working for her.

I"m assuming you made this comparison as a compliment because i could go either way with that
yeah it's clear that the mid 00s group is hitting their bridge between iconic and legendary so these new girls need to STEP IT UP and make a DEFINITIVE era.
Britney remains a legend.
Beyonce remains a legend that is at the helm.
Shakira remains a legend
JLO remains an icon/legend (she clears two areas [pop culture and entertainment] but misses on overall music/acting and genre specific pop)
Pink remains an icon
xtina remains an icon
Timberflake remains a legend
Usher remains a legend
Alicia remains a legend
Now the girls from the mid and late 00s are hovering between icon and legend in the making status
Taylor is at the helm as a legend in the making
Adele is a legend already but is lazy so she's not at the helm
Rihanna is a legend in the making.
Katy will either be an icon or a legend in the making depending on kp4
Gaga will most likely remain an icon
So it's up to Bieber, Bruno, Miley, Meghan, Ariana, Selena, That red headed guy with the lazy eye, Demi to step up to become undeniable icons.
Bieber is already there with possibilities to become a legend in the making if he scalps in his era after his comeback
Bruno will only be an icon.
