Even if that doesn't seem like a lot of work, regardless of the intensity of it, just by doing that + simply existing, they (reportedly) bring in more tourist revenue than they require to keep, so that alone is enough justification for them to be paid so much.
If they sat around like lazy socialites then I could understand people's complaints, but until that day comes, I think they should stay as they are.
