Members of parliament can take on all the responsibilities of the monarchy while saving the government money simultaneously. The monarchy really is obsolete. I also don't believe the work you mentioned justifies a privileged life, especially when the monarchy is no longer involved in improving the lives of Brits (am I wrong?). I believe privilege and wealth should be earned, not given based on tradition.
If that's the case, then why not cancel the royal tax and give them maybe one percent (or less) of the money they bring in from tourism? Even if you remove the monarchy, people would still travel to see the royal buildings and architecture.
I don't think some random MP from Bath, or whoever, doing the same job as the queen is going to carry as much media attention/prestige as it does whenever the queen does it.
Imagine expecting a prestigous guest like the Queen coming to your country and then being presented with someone like Boris Johnson (who's even bigger than an ordinary MP)... it's not the same.
I agree, but that's just not how life works, sadly.
Just like the queen was born into privilege and wealth due to tradition, others are born into privilege and wealth cause their dad is Donald Trump, or whatever other circumstances they find themselves in.
On 30 March 2002, at 15:15 (GMT), the Queen Mother died in her sleep at the Royal Lodge, Windsor Great Park, with her surviving daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, at her bedside. She had been suffering from a cold for the last four months of her life.
i don't think i know much about the royal family, but if i remember well, the queen's mother died with over 100 years old and she was still walking. she won't pass that crown so soon.
so how does the passing of the Crown go when the monarch dies? does it automatically just go to the next one in line or is there like some monarch limbo for a period of time? someone educate me
