I didn't even know Alcest released n the sings you posted are v nice, need to listen to the rest. James' effort was boring imo but I liked a couple of individual sings and as someone who genuinely enjoyed Burn Your Fire I obvs love My Woman as well.
It's usually the first time when it's the craziest.

I wanted to like James Blake's new album. Never really clicked with me. Although he's usually a grower anyway.
His last two albums were more instant and precise imo.

James Blake - The Colour In Anything
The Dear Hunter - Act V: Hymns with the Devil in Confessional
Kero Kero Bonito - Bonito Generation
Angel Olsen - My Woman
As I mentioned in one of the songs this album came from, Terminal Redux one of the best metal album of the year for me, and it stood out to me from the others. The album is around space themes (a similar concept to one of the previous albums I mentioned :keir). Makes a bit of sense cuz Terminal Redux is kinda otherworldy. I dig the vocals and thrash instrumentals all together and it stuck to me as one of the year's highlights.
19. Bon Iver - 22, A Million
Nope i'm not a part of the Bon Iver hate club that's kinda vocal around here. Anyway, Bon Iver decided to go Kid A/808s on us and add a bit more electronic flavor to their folky style. It's not Justin needed the vocoder/enchancers cuz he always sounds good with them, but they were just used to layering purposes to add something more to the songs. There are tracks that just goes out there (10 deathbreast) while others that retain their original personality (#29 Strafford). In constrast to the long album trend that 2016 had, this album was pretty short and simple and didn't feel like it dragged.
18. Frank Ocean - Blonde
Blonde is a grower. It's something that takes a bit more time to digest when compared to his previous album, Channel orange. The songs are slower, more melodic & layered, have more depth to them. It's probably one of the reasons why some brush it off as "boring". When Nikes first came out, I was a bit in awe cuz of the possible new direction he was taking. His voice alters a bit more while having lyrical content that hits straight home (I see that Travyon line). This was never a disappointment for me, and yeah even tho currently the highs on it don't exactly match CO's, it was still consistent enough to where it was a nice followup. I also want to give props to Endless cuz I enjoyed that too, but didn't want two frank albums on this list.
17. Beyoncé - Lemonade
*not on Spotify*
Lemonade was an event and I didn't expect the album to have a successful blend of a variety of genres that were present on it. All while telling a story line about a challenging marriage. At times I wasn't sure whether this was about her and Jay Z specifically or just in general, but i'm guessing that's all left for interpretation. The film really does add some context to the album. As the album went on there were different stages of emotions, from grief, to anger, to forgiveness, to redemption, that's all present from the songs and the way she sings them. Pray You Catch Me alone, whew, one of her best openers/ballads. Although I can appreciate what she was going on, ultimately there's just some songs that I don't really care for (Forward, Sandcastles) but in the end it was still cohesive.
16. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
Speaking of events, the day they wiped out social media and teased us with Burning With The Witch was pretty hype-worthy. I didn't really like The King Of Limbs that much, so to see return to form with something more personal and concentrated was very pleasing. It may not be as sonically innovative as say Kid A, or revolutionary as OK Computer but I didn't really expect that out of them in the first place. There's not a point in me comparing AMSP to them just yet cuz it's still growing for me. The emphasis on orchestral arrangement makes the album have more of an easy listening process to me. It makes the album beautiful in its own way. As established rock legends, they still got it.
