No, San Francisco revoked their right to test their self-driving car program because they lacked the proper permits but they're still building the software and testing it in Pittsburgh.
Google isn't ending their self-driving initiative either; they're still working on the software but they've given up on making their own car just like Apple has because it's an expensive and complex process. They're just going to partner with other existing car companies to bring these autonomous cars to market.
Hmm...they did not end the self driving car program. They spin it off as it's own company, Waymo, and plan to license the tech to car companies. They just don't want to make the cars themselves, which actually is a smart move.
Here is the first car Google/Waymo announced, with Chrysler partnership

The hacking talk in this thread is nuts. Either some of you have delusions of grandeur or think we're living in an episode of Black Mirror. None of us are important enough for someone to hijack a highly complicated interface & jeopardize their entire future just to do... what exactly? Drive the car into a pole just for the lolz? Make you pick up & deliver a pizza to the hacker's home? Force you to listen to Joanne? Not to mention the impossible likelihood that Google would be linked to a consumer product if the beta testing revealed any potential lapses in security. Google Glass got canned for less. But go ahead, keep freaking out if it makes you feel important, I'm looking forward to my lazy, insignificant ass getting chauffeured by a robot for the rest of my life.

Lol all this text and you literallly said NOTHING significant
I mean people can hack much more complicated interfaces for no reason whatsoever . I'm all for it, but it definitely should be a concern before it is released

Hack into the interface and force you to drive into a mass of people?
