Britney has been called a pop icon by literally everybody, she is, there's no discussion about that. She has been suffering a steady decline in quality or entertaining value (kinda like the same has been happening to Madead) which might be bluring things. But when you're talking about pop icons, Britney would be literally at the top of most lists.
