The US has a very questionable history indeed (and so do Russia, China, France, Britain, Spain etc) but I don't wanna hear from people who worship Taylor Swift and Madonna that it is the worst country in the world.
Educate yourself. Iran is a functional, stable democracy where women can show quite a bit of hair. The people are generally nice, hospitable, hopeful and happy. It's hard to be gay in Iran, harder than in most countries, but for most people it's a good place to live in. Tehran is fairly liberal. The contrast between Saudi Arabia and Iran is YUGE. It's getting better.
Meanwhile in Russia you won't ever see someone smile and there's no hope for the future because the economy is in decline, people are becoming more Christian and people are moving to the far right on social matters. It's getting worse.
Also for all of those saying NK: I disagree. Even though a state-capitalist society like North Korea is very repressive, life is fairly enjoyable there. Money isn't everything. North Korean education is fairly good, family life is very important and people don't care as much about money there.
Most of us, if born there, would belong to the Pyongyang elite anyways. We'd be enjoying life just as much as we are now. The countryside is also quite beautiful, with a very traditional way of life. Homosexuality isn't punishable by the way.
I'd say Congo, Central African Republic, Mali and Eritrea.
Iran is not liberal under any lens and life doesn't sound so enjoyable under NK where people lack FOOD and are not even allowed to think for themselves. That's a silly assumption, if I don't belong to the elites here why would I belong to the Pyongyang elite? Do you know any North Koreans or Iranians?
As for Russia, I imagine it's hard out there for an LGBT person. Otherwise even though the economy is crappy, it can't be worse than those countries in Africa and the Middle East where people are either perennially in war or starving

They just passed a ridiculous religious schooling law. And they're the worst to live in. Whether you want to be killed by a terrorist or by a religious fanatic. Because there are many more fanatics than terrorists as they kill people singularly and it's not reported as terrorism, especially in their countries where it's praised.
You guys should watch this. It's devastating. This is why I included Liberia next to Somalia.
Liberia is truly a forgotten country in west Africa. Wars, Ebola, unbearable living conditions, countless former kid soldiers, Malaria and the UN troops there only took advantage of mostly underage prostitutes.
How anybody in here can claim that Saudi Arabia, one of the richest countries in the world, is the most awful one where you have a country like Liberia is just beyond me.

Not you judging a country because of a picture of one of the worst areas in a city sure it's not one of the bests countries but it's far from being one of the worsts, it's actually one of the bests countries in Latin America. The Economist named it the country of the year just a week ago.
