I work there and TBH it's all just for the name and the placebo effect. Like, the coffee we have is very good. It tastes amazing, but it is super overpriced. Why would anyone wanna pay 5.45 for milk and coffee? But people take it seriously because they feel the NEED to have it to enjoy a good day. They feel entitled to walk about with the green straws in their mouth, the siren sleeve cusped within their palms. No one there cares about the caffeine. It's just about the image and the mind convincing itself it NEEDS it to function properly. People get mad and crazy over a freaking Frappuccino or an iced tea because they want their super fancy image to not be tarnished. Half the people that go don't even know what they're saying. They ask for a nonfat dry cappuccino with ristretto shots and then get mad when they realize it tastes horrible. They just want to sound complicated half the time
Because their founders were taught by a Dutch immigrant how to roast the coffee beans back in the days the Dutch described American coffee quality as war-time rations. The first place/chain in the US where you can get better coffee.
The Dutch joke about themselves that Dutch and culinary doesn't fit in a sentence. By European standards it isn't high, but by American standards a major improvement.

Starbucks is a fashion statement. You're considered cool to some when you're walking around with a Starbucks cup with your oversized Hollywood sunglasses on.
I'll take Dunkin' Donuts coffee any day ... it's cheaper and tastes MUCH better.
It's trendy and people like the "aesthetic", basically. People also get really obsessed over Starbucks, kind of like the Apple stans. nn it's not that deep honestly, Starbucks coffee is alright I guess
I love the smell/taste of coffee but I can function properly without getting my "fix" every morning
Anyways, if I had to choose - tea >>>

But it's so expensive (min. $5 a cup) that I can't be drinking it everyday (dunno how people do that). Twice a week tops for me. If I need caffeine some other time throughout the week and am not at home to make myself a cup of coffee, I'll just go to McDonald's. It's drinkable, which is all I ask from $2 coffee

In England, I take Costa. They started with roasting beans for the Italian coffee shops, that's a bit more civilised.
