David Cameron arrived at Buckingham Palace tonight to accept an invitation from the Queen to form the first Tory government in 13 years
It follows tonight's dramatic announcement by Gordon Brown that he was resigning as Prime Minister, and comes after the successful conclusion of talks between the Tories and the Lib Dems.
Shadow foreign secretary William Hague tonight said he was preparing to take recommendations to the rest of the party after a deal was thrashed out over a further five and half hours of talks.
Mr Hague said: 'We now have some recommendations to take back to David Cameron and our parliamentary colleagues.'
Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg's chief of staff Danny Alexander said that the talks had taken place in a 'good atmosphere'.
I have a good feeling about this for some reason, I think it will work. Hung Parliaments never last long in the UK, but I think it's going to be different this time. I think the difference in the political views of both parties in this coalition (The Conservatives and The Liberal Democrats) will actually help to keep the Government more balanced, rather than create division.
^But Tories and Lib Dems are nothing alike, hopefully this will mean another election very soon. And possibly a Labour victory after five minutes under the Tories. Hope so anyway. I'm really upset that the first time I've been old enough to vote that the people I liked didn't even get in power

StarryEyed, Labour have done enough damage thank you very much. They've changed their policies and "New Labour" is very much the same as Old Labour now. The only success they had during the past decade was when they adapted Conservative style policies. I hope they don't come back anytime soon

Tory choices are very limited. They're essentially a unionist party so I can't see the Scottish and Welsh Nationalist thing working out very well. There needs to be another election because there was no overall majority
