Discussion: Stop Calling The U.S Market ''Local''

I don't understand how people on ATRL who live in places with a population between 200,000-1,000,000 are calling the USA ''Local'', just because he or she isn't received well to other small countries, doesn't mean she or he isn't a big star. Many major Pop stars were huge in America while lukewarm outside the state.

Last time I check, you foreign girls are the same people running into the Billboard HOT 100/Billboard 200 to see if your faves have the #1 album and single. Fans always use the term Local, but in reality it is your flop country that is local.

The US Music Market will remain the most important market in the world.

If you don't have success in the US or Japan, the biggest music markets in the world, you're automatically local to wherever your success is

But at the same time, if you're only successful in US or Japan, it's not untrue that you're local to those regions.

I agree. People toss "local" around a lot but some of their most coveted receipts are #1/Top 10 singles/albums on the US charts "this decade" or SPS or whatever it is they say nowadays. Of course, success in ONLY the US would make you local, but isn't it better to be local in the US (bc if you have a hit here other countries are BOUND to know it too) rather than being local to somewhere in Europe where you'll have a big hit that nobody really knows?

Technically local by definition.

But the fact mostly all the other markets sans Japan combined equate to the U.S. makes the stan mocking of artists successful in said market ridiculous really.

Glad my fave is a global American sweetheart. I could care less.

But yeah, you're right. If you're not from the USA and you are big/huge in the US, I'll still consider you a global artist, even if your music flops in Japan or anywhere else.

On the otherhand, K-Pop artists who are slaying in Southeast Asia will remain local unless they'll make it in the US. As they say, if you can make it in US, you can make it anywhere else.

UK, Japan, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea are not "random small countries".

As it's been proven, western artists who sing English pop music are ususally capable of doing very well in most of these countries. If your fave can't do the same then, yes, they're local.
